SUPPORTING THE HOMELESS
Helping the homeless through the pandemic has been Get Rid of it and Donate’s priority ensuring the essentials items of warm clothes, shoes, tents, sleeping bags, sanitising gels, masks and toiletries are distributed. Many organisations and companies reached out on our call out campaign for back packs, pulley suitcases and ruck sacks.
Good gym joined us to prepare distribution bags for the rough sleepers, all items were donated from people in the community.
‘One of the Good gym challengers Frances Collier Wright joined us over two nights wrote -
‘All of the loose clothing was to be packed into bags for individuals, each person being given a few tops, gloves, scarves, hats and socks, and then a bit more of everything when we realised we had been too sparing and there were loads more donations to assign. The large suitcases were each filled with a tent, sleeping bag and blanket, and the smaller ones had a towel and a travel pillow. Meanwhile Tessa got on with putting toiletries and towels into little blue waterproof bags, efficiently packing a whole table full and carefully dealing with a shampoo explosion.
Once all the items had been assigned we moved everything back (neatly) into the original unit ready to be loaded onto the van tomorrow for distribution.
